Excuse my ignorance guys but can somebody explain to. Me how the “placed” bit of an each way bet works.

arrowh let us say you want to place an each way bet at for example 20/1 at place odds of 1/5
You put on £20 (£10 each way)
If it only placed your winnings are calculated by 20 divided by 5 = 4 which would return you £40 plus your £10 stake £50 intotal

Thanks Ed and yes that does explain it. It was the 1/5 bit that I couldn’t work out but that makes sense now. DOH!!

Thanks for that Ed. Yes it does explain it and it makes complete sense when I see it written down. Well, I’ve bet on almost every race at Cheltenham and I’ve ended up (after a lot of ups and downs) £4.09 up. I was doing well until the last 4 races.
